Vine Ride 2010

This past Saturday Tom and I rode the 10th Annual Vine Ride. We have been doing this ride since 2005 and as always we had a really good time. This year was even better because the temperatures were in the high 60s - low 70s and we finished 10 minutes under our finish time last year...10 minutes!

We have two more rides this season and then I get into real training mode for my first Tri in 2011!

Books, magazines etc...

If you were to come to my house, you would see that I like books...and magazines. Actually both Tom and I subscribe to a few magazines so we are never without something to thumb through at any given moment.

The only problem with these items is that they take up space so I have to buy bookshelves and other pieces of book storing items if I want to keep these books and/or magazines. The only good thing about magazines is that once we are both done reading them they go into the recycle bin. Books are different, I wouldn't recycle a book, but I happily lend my book(s) my bookish friends. Share the wealth if you will.

Well, it is getting to the point that I have to either get rid of some books or quit buying books...I don't like either option to be honest. and really the other option would be to go to the library, but I like looking at and buying brand new books with crisp pages that have been untouched by other fingers and are full of cooties.

My latest option is...

Amazon Kindle

Yes...the Amazon Kindle. I have BC Johnson to blame for this! One day last week he came to work and presented HIS Kindle to me to have a looky-loo. At first I wasn't all that excited. After all, it's technology and I'm not that big of a fan...but that's another post. He really talked up this little device and I was intrigued, so much that I decided to do my own research. This thing not much bigger than a steno pad will hold up to 3,500 books...no, I didn't add an extra zero...it really is 3,500 as in THREE-FIVE-ZERO-ZERO. That's a boat load of books! I wonder how many books I have bought over the years and have gotten rid of. Could that number be close to 3,500? Probably not, but still. You have to admit, that's a lot of books to read. The great thing is that those would be books that wouldn't have to sit on a shelf or nightstand or wherever a book or magazine could be kept. Not only can books be stored, magazines and newspapers are available for a nominal monthly fee. It's easy to use...it sports Wi-Fi...and so much more! I'm so enthralled with this thing that I went to look at the model that is across the street at Target and even had a dream last night that I had my very own Kindle!

Besides my bike, I haven't wanted to have something so much as I would like one of these. Now that says something, since I always like looking at bikes!

Reading "book" has become so much more alluring...

USS Ranger

(photo from wikipedia)
This was the most exciting news that I could have ever given Tom...EVER. He LOVES all things military and this one is pretty cool (I guess) because Top Gun had filmed on this aircraft carrier...a movie which he rented and intended for us to watch oh-so-many years ago.

So, after I told him that it probably would be coming to Fairview I went on to tell him that I would visit it ONCE with him. A few years ago we toured Midway in San Diego, so I'm having a hard time visualizing this being any different.

We'll see...

2010 Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour

We traveled to Albany to participate in the Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour in Linn County. The route we took had four bridges that we got to ride to and/or thru. Actually there was one bridge (the first one) that we had a detour that took riders away from a few miles of chip seal roadway. Other than that the day was almost perfect, just some drizzle in the morning, and clearing after lunch.

There were around 600 registered riders which made for a pleasant day of riding. This was our second time riding this route and it is most certainly a favorite ride that we will look forward to riding year after year!

Going Annual

It seems like such a long time since this picture was taken...

and I've had lots of these kinds of pictures taken...

I had an appointment with my oncologist yesterday and things are very good. Now, I had a visit with my neurosurgeon back in April when he suggested that I go to annual MRIs since things have been pretty stable for the past couple of years...actually since my second surgery. So, really me and Dr. Kolibaba had very little to discuss, although we did briefly talk about the annual MRI routine, which went something like this...

Me:  Oh, so Dr. Rokosz suggested that I could do annual MRIs.

Dr K:  Are you okay with that?

Me:  YES!

So, that was pretty much the end of the conversation.Although, my conversation with Dr. Rokosz about my MRIs was much more brief...we are talking about nothing in particular when he says:

Dr. R: So, how about 1 year?

Me: Really?! Okay!

That was the end of that.

So yeah, I was (am) pretty ready to not have to go have MRIs every six months.

The other great thing is that my visits to Northwest Cancer will also become an annual thing AND I won't have to have blood draws for labs anymore...WOO HOO! Since my visits to the oncologist have been becoming less frequent, my veins don't remember the feeling of a needle poke for a bit of blood to be drawn up. Yup, not going to miss that at all!

Who would have ever thought that I would get to the point of annual MRIs and visits with docs? It's been a long six years, but I'm liking the way things are going...very exciting!

The other really cool thing that happened (which has nothing to do with Doctors, MRIs or Cancer) is that the receptionist thought that I might have been a classmate of hers....she is 36! I'm 45 and she thought I might have gone to school with her...hehehe. The scheduler even made a comment that I didn't look my age! Okay, so I'll miss Northwest Cancer just a little ;)

Annual appointments gooood!
